VOLLEYBALL CAMPS

4th - 5th Grade Camp

Ankeny's head volleyball coach Dave Whims, along with other coaches and High School players from the Hawkettes volleyball team are sponsoring this camp for girls going into 5th grade. You wear normal gym clothes and camp will focus on instruction in the fundamentals and rules of the game. Each participant will receive papers on how to improve their skills. Competitive Winter AAU Volleyball and the formation of teams will be explained. Each participant will also receive a camp t-shirt and may purchase a volleylite ball. (This ball is the same size as a regular ball, but lighter and has no string on the arms.)

6th-8th Grade Camp

Ankeny High School Varsity Volleyball Coach Dave Whims and his staff will be offering summer volleyball camps for girls entering grades 5-12. The purpose of these camps is to improve the skills of each girl by enhancing strengths and correcting weaknesses. The basic rules and strategies of the game will be taught along with the skills of the game, including passing, setting, spiking, serving, digging, and blocking. There will be contests to win prizes in the 6th-8th grade camps. All players will receive camp papers that show how to improve their skills.

8th-9th Grade Setters & Hitters Volleyball Camp

Ankeny's head volleyball coach Dave Whims, along with his staff will hold this camp for players that have a strong desire to learn to be a setter or a hitter. The purpose of these two camps is to teach the fundamentals of setting and hitting. We will work with hand position, foot work and the different types of sets and spikes. The participants will receive many repetitions from a few drills. The drills will reinforce game like situations. On the last day we will combine the two camps so we can work as a unit on the skills in a team like situation.

Summer Volleyball Open Gym

Open gym time is provided for the high school players that want to come to the gym and work on their skills through out the summer months. This is open gym on Monday nights for girls entering 8th grade. Wednesday nights for girls entering grades 9-12 and Sunday nights for girls entering grades 11-12.
