CROSS COUNTRY CAMPS
Parkview counselor and former AHS Cross Country coach, Steve Arneson a middle school cross country exposure program. Participants will meet once a week starting after Labor Day. Some Saturday sessions may be planned to coordinate with the AHS teams. Racing opportunities, including the State Jr. High Meet at Saydel, will be offered to those interested. Customized workouts will be suggested for those wanting additional training. ANKENY SPORTS BOOSTER CLUB
CROSS COUNTRY/RUNNERS CLUB CAMP
Ankeny High School Girls' Cross Country and Track and Field coach Sarah Goplen and her staff offer a summer running and cross country camp for boys and girls entering grades 7-12 this fall. We will learn about and practice progressive training, proper nutrition and health habits, general shorter run with running drills and flexibility exercises on Tuesdays, a tempo run on Wednesdays, and a relaxed run with lifting exercises on Thursdays. We will tailor the length of the run to the individual's current running shape. Session 2 will continue to build on Session 1. However, an individual does not need to sign up for session 1 in order to fully participate in Session 2.
Participants should wear a light colored t-shirt, running shorts, running shoes, and a stopwatch. Participants should also bring a water bottle every night to stay properly hydrated after completing each run. Each participant will receive an Ankeny Hawks t-shirt for the miles they ran in the summer.
